Will Lady GaGa Just Dance To #1 In 2009?

Alright, folks, it's a new year and a new outlook. Who cares if the world is falling apart now more than ever? Lady GaGa has a smash hit on her hands!

This week "Just Dance" creeps up from #3 to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Lady GaGa, doesn't your man-in-a-wig ass know that #2 is dangerous territory for a newcomer pop/dance diva? Just ask Donna Lewis, Jane Child or Nicki French. They all landed there, had a brief celebratory time in the sun, then were taken to the pop firing range and put down.

Time will tell with this broad, though. One interesting point of note is that "Just Dance" was released a full nine months ago in the States. Are we thinking the same thing? Yep, Lady could have gotten knocked up and shot a kid out by now.

Now, what I'd like to know is how the Pussycat Dolls managed to have another hit! "I Hate This Part" is up from #32 to #21. I heard this song several times while back in Pittsburgh over the holidays, and while it might pass for entertainment in that neck of the woods...

Hmmm. Well, admittedly, it is the one song I kept on my iPod from the horrendous Doll Domination album. But after "Whatcha Think About That"—the one where Missy Elliot says she wants to chew Katy Perry's tuna casserole or something—failed to chart in the Hot 100, I thought these strippers were taken out to the Vegas desert and pushed off a cliff.

"I Hate This Part" is PCD's seventh U.S. Top 40 hit.

Other trash of mention: The Veronicas are up to #29 with "Untouched," Pink is at #35 with "Sober" and Metro Station is #42 with "Seventeen Forever."

God, if I was 17 forever, I'd still be a virgin listening to Cathy Dennis cassette singles. Which wouldn't be so bad if I still had a tape player.

Finally, 15-year-old Miranda Cosgrove's cover of Sugababes' "About You Now" debuts at #51. She performed her by-the-numbers version at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and apparently the tween nation went hog wild and began downloading it. Miranda's "About You Now" appears on the soundtrack of her hit Nickelodeon TV show, iCarly.

Oh, well—HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I “The Promise” Not To Trash Girls Aloud Today

There's a popular misconception that D'luv thinks Girls Aloud are a mangy pack of Z-grade dames with all the talent of a dead whore baking in the sun and decomposing on a rock at the beach.

But 'tis not so!

Ever since their magnificent single "Call The Shots" made it to Chart Rigger's "Best of the Year" list last December, I've warmed up to these strippers.

And while their new jam "The Promise" doesn't come close to "Call The Shots," it nevertheless tops the U.K. chart this week, ironically the same week the similarly '60s-influenced "Girls" by Sugababes gets bumped out of the Top 10.

All in all, "The Promise" is the Girls' 19th single, and their fourth U.K. #1—the last of which was the godawful "Walk This Way" duet with Sugababes.

Elsewhere, there's the 2008 update of Guru Josh's "Infinity" at #3...but, you know—NEEEXT!

The U.K. Top 10:

1. "The Promise" - Girls Aloud *1 week*
2. "So What" - Pink
3. "Infinity 2008" - Guru Josh Project *new*
4.
"Sex On Fire" - Kings Of Leon
5. "Wire To Wire'" - Razorlight *new*
6. "Up'" - The Saturdays
7. "Hot N Cold" - Katy Perry
8. "Love Lockdown" - Kanye West
9. "Raindrops (Encore Une Fois)" - Sash feat. Stunt
10. "The Winner's Song" - Geraldine

Sugababes Vs. Girls Aloud…again!

You may be asking, who?

Well they are the UK's premiere girl groups. [Think The Pussycat Dolls & Danity Kane of Britain] They share a similar style and release a string of hits, year after year. This time last year they both released highly anticipated singles within weeks of each other, and the Sugababes faired a little better. Well this time around, their singles sound almost the same, except for their distinct vocals. Here are the videos for their new singles, Who do you think won this time around?

You’ve Come A Long Way, Sugababes

While "Girls" is hardly a stellar Sugababes single when held up against the Brit girl group's top notch offerings of yore—such as "Red Dress," "Easy" and "About You Now"—there's still a bit of D'luvvly anticipation for new album Catfights And Spotlights (out October 20 in the U.K.).

Sugababes have to be the hardest—or at least fastest—working girls in pop at the moment, considering that, with the exception of 2001 and 2004, they've had a new release out each fall since 2000.

Granted, one of those was a greatest hits, but they also re-recorded parts of 2005's Taller In More Ways for its '06 re-release once Mutya Buena rolled.

And thank God these broads found decent stylists to work with. They looked like three transexual tweens hookin' at the playground back then.

Here Comes Sugababes’ “Girls,” And There Goes Will Young

The fall's new offerings are beginning to chip away at the boring ol' U.K. Top 10 that has remained somewhat stagnant and unmoving over the past month or so.

Perhaps the most surprising development is that "Changes," Will Young's first single off his upcoming fourth album, actually fell three spots following its physical CD single release. Last week "Changes" peaked at #10 on downloads alone. Now it sits at #13.

Sugababes make a return with the so-so "Girls" at #8. Actually, so-so is almost too kind a term for that turkey of a single. It's gettin' no D'luvvin' round these parts. In fact, that "The Promise" by ho troupe Girls Aloud beats "Girls" by a mile.

Kudos to Jennifer Hudson for climbing up four positions to #11 with "Spotlight" and congrats to Pink for debuting at #38 with "So What." Meanwhile, how about X Factor rejects Avenue entering at #50 with "Last Goodbye"?

Here's the video for said tune, in its "All Around The World Mix" form...paired up with the video for Sugababes' "Girls":

And I just wouldn't be me if I didn't point out (with glee) that McFly have fallen from #4 to #17 with "Lies." Ta, lads!

The U.K. Top 10:

1. "Sex On Fire" - Kings Of Leon *3 weeks*
2. "I Kissed A Girl" - Katy Perry
3. "Disturbia" - Rihanna
4. "When I Grow Up" - Pussycat Dolls
5. "In This City" - Iglu & Hartly
6. "Cookie Jar" - Gym Class Heroes feat. The Dream
7. "You Make It Real'" - James Morrison *new*
8. "Girls" - Sugababes *new*
9. "Miss Independent" - Ne-Yo
10. "There You'll Be" - Faith Hill *new*
